FIXED PROSTHESIS

FIXED PROSTHESIS

Fixed prosthesis consists of the partial or total restoration of a tooth crown (single fixed prosthesis) or the replacement of one or more missing teeth (fixed partial prosthesis).
It is called “fixed” because it cannot be removed naturally.

Once cemented onto the patient’s teeth, previously prepared to receive it, it restores the feeling of having natural teeth and brings back confidence to chew, speak, and smile.

Fixed prostheses can be purely metallic, metal covered with an aesthetic ceramic material in the color of natural teeth, or fully ceramic.

Bridge (Fixed Partial Denture)

It replaces one or more missing teeth by means of a structure with teeth joined together, in which the suspended teeth (pontics) are supported by abutment teeth.

Unitary (Single Fixed Prosthesis)

It can be used to cover up an aesthetic flaw in a tooth (darker or smaller than normal, for example), or to fully restore a fractured crown or one at risk of fracturing, using only the root of the tooth.
